Manhattan is a cocktail made with whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters. Whiskeys commonly used include rye (the traditional choice), Canadian whiskey, bourbon, blended whiskey and Tennessee. Traditionally, Angostura is used to give a slight bitter touch to the drink. Often, the cocktail is mixed with ice and is decorated with a Maraschino cherry with a stem. Served frequently in an Old Fashioned glass (lowball glass)
